New Party President
Will Build on Liberal Success
Naqvi lays out
inclusive, modern vision for the future

Toronto – Long-time Liberal
activist and Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi was
acclaimed as the new President of the Ontario
Liberal Party at the Party's AGM in Windsor .
Naqvi, an international trade
lawyer by training, plans to move forward on three
key priorities:
- Enhancing resources in every
riding to ensure the Party's ability to wage a
competitive campaign in 2011;
- Expanding use of new
technologies and techniques (including social
networking) to optimize outreach and campaigning
efforts; and
- Drawing upon Ontario's youth
and diversity to attract new members and harness
their ideas and creativity heading into the
election in 2011.
Naqvi will work with the Party
Executive to build on the Liberals' efforts to reach
out to—and engage—all Ontarians.
A first-generation Canadian, Naqvi
and his family immigrated to Canada in 1988, after
the Pakistani government imprisoned his father for
leading a pro-democracy march.
"My parents wanted more out of
their government and the best for their children, so
we moved to Ontario," said Naqvi. "To start my
journey in Pakistan, and now have this opportunity
to serve the Ontario Liberal Party, means more than
I can ever express."
Naqvi was elected to the
Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 2007.
